Ana Jasmina Oseban

Ana Jasmina Oseban (1978) studied Social Pedagogy at the University in Ljubljana and Translation and Interpretation in English and German Language at the University in Maribor and at the Karl Franzens University in Graz, Austria. She is a member of the Association of Slovenian Literary Translators and has been working as a freelance literary translator and translator in the field of humanities since 2008. In 2013, she received the »Radojka Vrančič Award for the Best Young Translator« for the translation of Sibylle Lewitscharoff's novel Blumenberg. In the same year, she was invited for a »Translator in Residence« at the European Translation House in Straelen, Germany.

She writes poetry in Slovene and German and translates contemporary literature (prose and poetry), mostly from German (Christa Wolf, Heinrich Böll, Stefan Zweig, Joseph Roth, Robert Musil, Sibylle Lewitscharoff, Ilija Trojanow, Marcel Reich-Ranicki, Sten Nadolny, Julia Franck etc.) and occasionally from English or Serbo-Croatian. Working in tandems, she translates Slovene authors into English and German (Miriam Drev, Brane Senegačnik, Gabriela Babnik). She also translates children and young adult literature (Lisa Tetzner, Akif Pirincçi). In 2014, she co-edited an anthology of contemporary Slovene authors in German translation SKICABUCH 1: Einblicke in die zeitgenössische slowenische Literatur, published by the Slovenian Book Agency and SKICA, Slovenian Cultural-Info Centre in Vienna. She editied and co-translated (with Nada Grošelj) an anthology of german-writing poets from Bukowina (2015).
